Florida Is Crying Our For Nurses
The State of Florida is located in the southeastern part of the United States of America. Florida is also the only state which boasts of a state organization for nurses named the Florida Nurses organization. The organization specializes in the advocation of nurses regardless of their area of expertise, specialty, or setting for practice.
Members of this organization are also nurses, of course, and together form a strong voice for all those in the nursing profession, especially those in the sate of Florida. Goals and priorities implementation on behalf of the members is the primary focus here and the establishment also works as a resource for both nurses and nursing students.
Multistate Licensure
There have been several endeavors in Florida for the benefit of its nurses and these include pursuing the multistate licensure for all its nurses - a move undertaken by the Florida Board of Nursing. The board had discovered earlier on that often nurses came into Florida and then left and allowed their licensure to relapse during that time. To re-enter the state again, they must now reapply for the same. A multistate licensure for nursing will mean that nurses can work in any other state, which recognizes it, without having to inform the nursing board there. Temporary Licenses The Board of Nursing in Florida has also recently granted temporary licenses to those have volunteered for the American Red Cross and also agency nurses who work for non-profit outfits through federal relief programs. Case by case licenses have also been granted for hospital requests from establishments which have facilities in other states and want to bring in nurses from there to help in Florida. Since Hurricane Charlie in fact, the board has issued some 184 temporary licenses. Another important development for Florida nurses includes a legislation to be passed by the government that allows the nurses to administer and prescribe controlled substances. Though this particular legislation is yet to passed, the nurses are optimistic. Nusing Shortage Florida is also a state that has recognized the need for more nursing personnel and the adverse effect that a shortage in this field could impact. The Florida Nursing Students Association is heavily involved in recruitment of nurses to alleviate this shortage and are constantly developing strategies for their recruitment as well as their retainment. It has launched a campaign to attract more people towards the profession with special focus on men. Gender stereotypes, typically associated with the nursing profession are also being changed with this endeavor. Its literature and websites have undergone a complete makeover in order to make it more men-friendly. It has also devised educational programs, which highlight men in active nursing jobs such as in critical care. The Future... The demand for nurses is now greater than ever. Recent developments in health care and the continued innovations in this field are creating more and more opportunities for both specialty nurses as well as general nurses. The profession is however, not simply a job but involves one of the noblest causes of life, i.e., of helping people. And with states such as Florida recognizing this need and importance for those in the profession, Florida nurses have more opportunities and options to look at then ever before.
