The third route is the hospital diploma program which is of 3 years. Here, students who have 30 to 60 hours of credit in subjects such as anatomy, chemistry, physiology, nutrition, and microbiology can move on to this program.

But whatever route a student adopts, it must be accredited or recognized by some national education regulating agency like the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

After completion of their studies through any of the routes mentioned above, the student should also sit for his licensure exam. This is necessary to get a job in any health care institution in the US. The licensure examination is National Council Licensure Examination - Registered Nurse or NCLEX-RN.

Scope and future prospects of staff nurses in the US Registered staff nurses are one of the largest workforce among health care professionals in the United States, but reports have still suggested that this workforce is not sufficient to meet the demand of the health care industry in the coming years. Thus jobs in this area are likely to grow. Also, because of new methods of treating diseases and also with various new instruments coming up everyday, hospitals now require fresh applicants. So there is a huge scope and job growth in this sector.
